On February 17, 2010, Douglas turned 50. We woke up in our beautiful room and decided to take advantage of Denny's offer of a free Grand Slam breakfast on your birthday! From there we decided to wander around Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf and get a feel for this great little seaside town. It was a beautiful day and we were full of anticipation as we prepared to take the 17-mile drive on the Monterey Peninsula. It did not disappoint. The Golf Course at Poppy Hills was one of the first stops.
From the first mile to the last, we were treated to beauty beyond description. Highlights included crashing waves, body surfing seals and of course the amazing
Pebble Beach golf course. We were treated to a day of sunshine and 75 F temperatures and all in all, it was just a stunning and fun day.Maybe some day we'll actually get to play the course instead of just pretending, but at $450.00 per green fee, playing Pebble remains a fantasy.
After the drive, we moseyed through Carmel and Santa Cruz and then finally arrived in San Francisco. True to style, Doug ended up eating a Double Double from In and Out burger to celebrate his 50 years! The adventures of San Francisco now awaited us.
