At the end of March, we hosted our first visitors. Doug's childhood friend and his wife and daughter joined us for a week and it was so much fun having a great house to share with them. We ate on the patio most nights and enjoyed the spacious kitchen and living area. Our guests reported that the guest room and guest bath functioned well so I guess that means we're officially ready for visitors!
The day after Easter, one of my best friends from college arrived in our desert paradise and we enjoyed a couple of days in the desert sunshine. After Stacy left, the shower doors for the master bathroom finally arrived and the contractor returned to keep at some of the final things that needed to be done. The master bathroom is so luxurious now. It's really like a hotel or spa bathroom and I can't believe I get to use it every day!
Having company convinced us that three counter stools were better than two so we ordered another one. It is really fun having such a spacious kitchen area where everyone can hang out while food prep is happening. It's a great spot for a quick breakfast or lunch.
We also found a chair for the living space that is both beautiful and functional. Believe it or not, this chair is a recliner. It looks great and is nice to have another place to sit in our living room. We also added a nice floor lamp. The space is almost complete. We have found a great sofa table that we really like for behind the couch and a large area rug will arrive in the shipment and I can't wait to see how it will all come together.
The other wonderful project has been the completion of the china hutch we received from my uncle. I have to tell you that I am in love with this Americana Decor chalky finish paint! It went on like a dream and we absolutely fell in love with the color we chose. (relic)Doug found some great hardware for it and I tell you, it's a piece that is made for our home. We love how it looks against the blue wall. It will be a stunning piece once our Royal Copenhagen Blue Flowers china is in place. I treasure the fact that the dishes came from my mom and the hutch was fashioned by her oldest brother. A true family heirloom in every sense of the word.
Other delights include a hummingbird feeder that attracts these interesting and amazing little creatures. Window blinds in the master bedroom now allow for some shade and privacy. Even the garage is looking great with most boxes emptied and all of the trash GONE! Soon we'll be able to park the car in the garage! And Tanner even got a new bed that matches the living room! He remains a very happy chappy and a great companion on our journey. And the sunsets keep happening in a generally spectacular fashion every evening.
There are some paint touch ups that need attention and a few more small fixes but, generally speaking, we are done! And guess what? The shipment arrives tomorrow, Monday, April 13, so another round of sorting and decorating and figuring out where it will go begins. I can't wait to see our stuff again, oh, and sleep in our lovely queen size bed!
