Nonetheless, I thank you for them and the compassion that you espouse. Despite the prevalence of the inequities and attitudinal resentments you so aptly describe, pockets of persevering incarnational servants exist and for that my heart is grateful. This is why I make my annual pilgrimage to Pico Union to be with my friend, Kathy. I catch a glimpse of and garner motivation to remain committed to bringing the "Kingdom to earth, as it is in heaven". In order for that to commence, what the Kingdom of God is not must be named and I am grateful for your willingness to do that. To my knowledge "illegals" is not the vernacular of the Gospel.Beth Fondellnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8016574498149978608.post-91394339320438303402010-02-12T12:47:34.514-08:002010-02-12T12:47:34.514-08:00Your blog really got the voices in my head going t...Your blog really got the voices in my head going this morning. You touched on something that is very close to my heart and I had a million things going through my head during my morning walk. I figured that is all comes down to the two greatest commandments.

"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

If we lived by these two commandments, we sure would have fewer issues with our neighbors no matter what language they speak, how much pigment they have in their skin, or whether they are legal or illegal.PaulWernquisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09483905286085880626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8016574498149978608.post-51632867713158405162010-02-12T10:16:29.861-08:002010-02-12T10:16:29.861-08:00(told you I have been lurking... :-)

We live in a very hispanic neighborhood that has a LOT of those terrible check-cashing places, which double as sites where people can pay ridiculous amounts of money to send their paychecks back home. Most people just have no concept of what such a life is like, and also what it does to families that are left behind in places like Mexico and El Salvador as generations of young people -- especially young men -- leave, taking all their potential with them.

Anyway, I really appreciate hearing about this issue from a Christian perspective! I think we bring a unique perspective to this as followers of Jesus....Bethanyhttp://bridezillabakes.com/bridezilla-writes/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8016574498149978608.post-61420467165187940722010-02-12T09:19:07.666-08:002010-02-12T09:19:07.666-08:00Very thoughtful, Jodi. As a pediatric nurse who deals with a diverse population of immigrants regularly, I hear the resentful comments of others regarding "footing the bill" for the children born here. It is a confusing issue at times. A couple things that come to mind for me are Grace (on a large scale )and Jubilee. Have we done our job as Christians conveying concepts of Grace or do we only know how to speak Law? I would love to see more Christians versed in living Grace in the large issues of society and politics.Cyd Cole Johnsonnoreply@blogger.com
